Expansion of Energy-Efficiency Tax Deduction

The White House said today it will revise the requirements for the Section 179D tax deduction so that more taxpayers will be encouraged to make energy efficiency improvements to commercial buildings.
The Internal Revenue Service will publish a notice advising that the threshold for qualifying for the deduction will be lowered from 20 percent energy savings to 15 percent energy savings, officials said.
Section 179D allows a tax deduction for all or part of the cost of energy-efficient commercial building property, including interior lighting systems and hot water, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
